Nowadays, there are some deck installation options that prevent the need for a replacement. These are known as composite decks, which are often made of used plastic and waste sawdust. Most homes, however, have wood decks. This means that over time, a replacement will be required so it’s important that you learn the signs that say so it’s already needed.
Joists
The joists is responsible holding up and stabilizing your deck, so it’s vital that they remain in top shape. If the joist is rotted, that’s a red flag and means your deck should be replaced as soon as possible to prevent any hazards.
Posts
The posts are another stabilizing component of your deck. To check it, dig out some dirt, and, if you find any rot and water damage, then you have to replace those posts. Unlike the joists, however, you can replace one or two of the posts without needing to completely replace your deck. However, if all posts are affected, then replacing the entire structure is necessary to prevent hazards.
Ledger Board
The ledger board is the component of the deck that allows it to remain attached to the rest of your home. If this starts to pull away from your house, it means you have to get your deck replaced as soon as possible. Otherwise, it can collapse under the weight.
Railings
People tend to lean on railings when they talk so it’s vital to make sure your deck’s railing hasn’t rotted or suffered from extensive water damage. Otherwise, it creates a hazard for your deck. Should your deck’s railings show signs of rot, have it replaced alongside the entire structure immediately.
